Houston, TX, September 28, 2009
– OrthoAccel Technologies, Inc., developers of the AcceleDent System, which is an acceleration device for orthodontics, attended the British Orthodontic Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, to initiate the limited release of the AcceleDent System in the UK.
The conference, which was held September 13 -15, is the largest dental specialist meeting in the UK. Speakers from all over the world attended the conference and presented on various clinical and research topics. In addition to orthodontists and dental specialists attending the conference, numerous orthodontic nurses and technicians were in attendance. OrthoAccel had a booth at the conference and reported favorable engagement with orthodontists. Michael Kaufman, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, said, “The British Orthodontic Conference exceeded our expectations. There was a lot of buzz at the meeting with regard to the AcceleDent System, the booth was very busy, and the doctors showed genuine interest in this new product. The BOC proved to be a great venue to help us progress our efforts towards a limited release in the UK.”
Since the AcceleDent System is still undergoing clinical research studies in the US, OrthoAccel made the decision to launch the device in the UK. Brent Tarver, Vice President of Clinical Affairs and Technology Development, said, “originally, we planned to focus on our U.S. clinical studies and FDA submission and then move into other markets; however, several UK orthodontists expressed an interest in the device in late 2008. We received our CE Mark in April 2009 and decided to market the device in the UK while we continue working on our U.S. market clearance, which we expect in late 2010 or early 2011. Currently the device is not for sale in the U.S.”
Dr. Gerry Bellman, a London based orthodontic specialist, attended the meeting as a company consultant and fielded a variety of questions from inquiring doctors. “It was very exciting to be at the AcceleDent booth and interact with some of the leading U.S. researchers in the field of cyclic force technology and the positive effects on bone. Also, it was very gratifying to have great discussions and interest from the British Orthodontic community.”
OrthoAccel had an invaluable experience at the British Orthodontic Conference. Mike Lowe, CEO of OrthoAccel, said, “our expectations were exceeded in two ways at this year’s BOC. First, we were extremely pleased with the positive nature of feedback from orthodontists and ‘welcoming attitude’ toward AcceleDent and innovation in general designed to improve orthodontic care for patients. Second, the team was just so impressed with the world class professionalism and organization of every conference detail managed by the British Orthodontic Society, the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, and everyone else who played a role. We look forward to attending Brighton in 2010.”
