Staying Fit During the Holidays

The holiday season is one of the busiest times of year. With all of the festive celebrations and holiday shopping, keeping up with your fitness routine is just as important as ever. Fortunately, there are a few easy ways to help keep you motivated, fit and healthy through the holidays that you can easily incorporate into your day.

Get Up and Go Earlier Than Usual

Moving your body first thing in the morning helps to minimize the chances of something else coming between you and your fitness goals. Try to make it a habit to get up earlier than usual to make time for early morning workouts. Working out in the morning allows you to get the exercise you need while still giving you plenty of time for all of your holiday errands.

Find an Exercise Buddy

It’s often difficult to get motivated for exercise when the weather is cold; however, it can be easier if you’re not alone. Find a friend, co-worker or relative who also wants to stay fit and healthy. Develop a dual exercise plan and hold one another accountable for your fitness goals.

Use the Stairs

Instead of using the elevator, head for the steps instead. You can get a great daily workout by running or walking up and down the stairs in your home or office building. After a week or so on the stairs, take things up a notch by climbing two steps at a time.

There are all types of indoor sports to partake in during the winter months that will help you stay in shape. Find out what indoor sporting activities your local community offers and choose one you enjoy like swimming, a dance class or aerobics. Most gyms offer great holiday sign-up deals, so consider buying a membership and incorporate gym workouts into your daily routine.

Eat Slowly and Brush Your Teeth after Meals

During mealtime, try to concentrate on eating slowly and enjoying the flavors. This will help you consume less as it takes your brain about 20 minutes to let you know you’re full. Use smaller plates, stay away from buffet tables and brush your teeth after meals.

To feel and look your best, try to incorporate healthy fitness and exercise into your everyday lifestyle. Look for opportunities to help you get moving, and also take time to relax and unwind at the end of the day to ensure that you get the recommended amount of rest you need to recharge and rejuvenate.
