Michael K. Lowe, Chief Executive Officer
Most recently, Mr. Lowe spent seven years at Philips Oral Healthcare (Royal Philips Electronics) where he worked in a variety of roles including global product management and brand management for Sonicare (Class I medical device, $350 million annual revenue). His experience comprises a range of marketing-related disciplines including dental professional sales management, sales training, promotion and advertising, market research, pricing strategy, and channel strategy development. While at Philips, he was nominated into the prestigious High Potential global management program, was listed as a co-inventor on a business application patent related to CRM, and developed a training program, Evidence-Based Dentistry, which won a regional MEDIC process improvement award for increased dental sales. He initially began working on the Sonicare business with Optiva, Inc. (1999 Inc. magazine Fastest Growing Privately Held Company award), joining Philips through the strategic acquisition process in 2000.
Mr. Lowe received an MBA from Rice University, Jones Graduate School of Management, where he graduated at the top of his class as a Jones Scholar. Mr. Lowe received a BS in Biology from Louisiana State University, magna cum laude, and attended dental school at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans where he completed the National Dental Board Examination Step One in the 90th percentile.
Kelly Enos, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Finance and Administration
Ms. Enos has over 20 years of financial management and operations experience including prior CFO roles at high tech, start-up, venture-backed companies. Throughout her career she has led countless transactions across a variety of debt and equity structures, including initial public offerings as well as mergers and acquisitions. Previously she served as CFO for Kony, Inc. handling the company’s financial and accounting activities as well as human resources, risk management and information technology functions. Prior to that, she served as CFO at EquaTerra, Inc., ypOne Publishing LP, Altrio Communications, Inc., Telseon IP Services Inc. and Star Telecommunications, Inc.
Enos began her career with Ernst & Young and later worked in investment banking at notable firms such as Oppenheimer. A graduate from Louisiana State University, she went on to pursue an MBA from Rice University and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Texas.
Kathleen Malaspina, Chief Innovation Officer and Vice President, Marketing
Ms. Malaspina oversees marketing, clinical affairs, regulatory affairs, intellectual property, product innovation and international business development, with an emphasis on expanding global market presence.
Ms. Malaspina has over 25 years of worldwide experience in marketing and sales, primarily in the consumer healthcare sector, where she has established a solid record of creating and executing profitable business strategies. She has held international operational management positions with Motorola, Sanyo and Philips.
As Global Marketing Director for Philips Oral Healthcare, she was responsible for all aspects of global launch strategy, product lifecycle development, line extensions, pricing and marketing planning. Her efforts were vital in launching several new Sonicare power toothbrush products in North America, Germany, the UK and Japan, leading to record sales of over $350 million. While at Motorola, her efforts contributed to 10% market share gains in Australia, and sales increases in excess of 50% while she was based in Singapore.
More recently, as President of Malaspina Healthcare Consulting, she worked with medical device and medical technology clients on marketing strategy and product innovation. Ms. Malaspina earned an MBA from IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
Jeff Layton, Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Layton oversees OrthoAccel Technologies’ product engineering, design, development, manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, quality assurance, regulatory affairs and intellectual property. Mr. Layton’s career includes credentialed executive responsibility and significant experience with world-class organizations including 3M and Dell, where he oversaw a $40 million operating budget with over $1 billion in cost of sales spending. Prior to his executive career in Operations, Mr. Layton was a Nuclear Submarine Engineering Operations Officer in the United States Navy. Mr. Layton holds a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering (Navy Equivalency) from the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power Program in Orlando, FL, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Mr. Layton is a certified private pilot and a named inventor on three U.S. patents.
Mark Steele, Senior Vice President Sales, North America
Mr. Steele leads OrthoAccel’s North American sales division, overseeing all aspects of business development and revenue growth. He has over 20 years of healthcare executive experience and has established a solid record of creating and executing profitable business strategies. Most recently Mr. Steele served as executive vice president of sales, marketing and customer service for MSD, a national provider of supply chain, medical device, and technology solutions to non-acute healthcare providers. Prior to MSD, Mr. Steele had an 18-year career at PSS World Medical, Inc., where he was named president of the company’s extended care business, after rising through the ranks of sales representative, regional vice president of sales and vice president of marketing for the company’s physician business. He holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of California, San Diego.
Frank Grunau, Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA)
Mr. Frank Grunau serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and oversees the expansion of AcceleDent® into the European, Middle Eastern and African (EMEA) markets. Mr. Grunau has more than 25 years of experience in medical device and technology sales that span brands from leading global companies including Zimmer Spine, Boston Scientific, and Bausch and Lomb.
At Align Technology, Mr. Grunau served as sales and sales operations director, and most recently as vice president of sales and marketing, EMEA, with a strong focus in developing emerging markets. Mr. Grunau’s strategic approach to business development and in-depth market experience has led to major business expansions, penetration of new territories, and rapid growth of product sales, including his tenure at Align Technology where he grew revenues in Europe by more than 33% CAGR (compound annual growth rate) over a six-year period.
Mr. Grunau received a Diploma in Social Economics from the University Gesamthochschule in Essen, Germany.
